Media Calibration Procedures

Understanding which Zebra printer calibration procedure to use—and when—is key to maintaining accurate label registration and minimizing downtime.

Label Length Calibration

The first procedure calculates the current label length and is ideal when switching label sizes or resolving inconsistent registration issues.

To calibrate for label length, perform the following steps:

  1. Set the label length in Setup Menu to one inch (1") longer than the lables currently installed in the printer or print-and-apply system.
  2. Exit the menu and save the setting.
  3. On the front panel, press the Pause key and then press the Calibrate key.  Once the Calibrate key is pressed, the printer will advance 2-3 labels and stop.  At this point, the label length is calibrated.
  4. Press the feed key to ensure that only one label advances.

Media Sensor Calibration

The second procedure adjusts the sensitivity of the media sensor, typically used when encountering out-of-label faults or installing a different type of label stock.

To perform this calibration:
  1. Go to the Setup Menu and find the setting: MEDIA AND RIBBON CALIBRATE.
  2. Press the right arrow key on the printer to start the calibration procedure.
  3. Follow the prompts on the LCS display step-by-step.
Before performing either procedure, ensure the upper and lower sensors are properly aligned and clean. If calibration fails after several attempts, contact FOX IV Technologies’ expert support team for assistance.
